The LIONS STRIKE BACK - JAYARATHNA KODIPPILY
Sri Lanka has
lost thousands of people by the ethnic conflict. It was stretched ahead
unnecessarily. The objective of all patriots of the land was peace. Although we
are separated into various ethnic groups, love, hate and humanity are common
factors that moulded everybody. We must understand properly about the
socio-cultural forces encounter each other.
This is a story of a Tamil girl born in
Jaffna. When the peaceful environment breaks in the ‘Black July’ in 1983, she
has encountered a chain of unexpected incidents. The story tells you how she
survived with this regrettable situation.
“There was thick darkness in the bunker. She closed her eyes tightly. She never become lonely in anyday. She heard the bendings and rolling sound of the trees and creepers with the sudden blow of the hard wind. She though it was a foretell of a storm. After a short time big rain drops began to fall down with the wind. Some rain drops which came with the wind into the bunker hit on the face of Rajanie. She sat on her heels. The rain become heavy gradually. Some water came between the palmyra logs with some sand hit on the forehead of Rajanie. She wiped the water with both her hands and switched on the torch. She tried to push the palmyra log over her head and stop the water coming in. But it was in vain.”
